Ralph Lauren was born on October 14th, 1939 in the Bronx, New York in a Jewish family of Belarus immigrants. From an early age he showed designer skill by designing and selling ties to his peers in the school. While in college, Ralph worked for “Brooks Brothers” and “Bloomingdale” and later as a salesman of ties in “A. Rivetz & Co”. In 1967, he was hired by “Beau Brummell Ties” as a designer, because of his colorful tie designs. The following year, Ralph Lauren establishes “Polo Fashion” and launched his first collection for men. In 1971, he launched his first collection for women. Due to huge success, the designer soon expanded and began designing children clothing, shoes, furniture, accessories and own Ralph Lauren perfume line.   • Ralph Lauren’s original last name was Lifshitz, but because of “shitz” his brother and him were constantly mocked by other kids and at the age of 16, they both changed their last name into Lauren.
  • In the 1980s, Ralph Lauren was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor which was successfully removed and since the designer continues to be in good health.
  • Ralph Lauren is involved in many charities. In 2003, he partnered with North General Hospital and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and established the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention and Care center.
  • Ralph Lauren is known for his popular “Polo” line and other lines of clothing, home décor, accessories and his amazing Ralph Lauren perfume lines.
  • In 1978, Ralph Lauren Polo partnered with L’oreal to design perfumes and launched Ralph Lauren perfume “Polo” for men and the classic Ralph Lauren perfume “Lauren” for women. The following year, Ralph Lauren perfume “Chaps” for men and Ralph Lauren perfume“Tuxedo” for women were launched.
